The L Word: S1

l word s1Took a trip back ten years to visit my girls from The L Word while I was out sick last week.  Breezed through S1 by the middle of this week. Didn’t realize I was done with the season until the second season Betty theme song popped up last night when I watched another episode. Oh, Bette and Tina’s break-up was the season finale! Duh! Absolutely loved seeing how dated the hairstyles are already after only a decade, but other than that this series holds up beautifully. Such a great crew of writers, directors and actors including Pam Grier, Laurel Holloman, Jennifer Beals, Mia Kirshner as Jenny Schecter the girl you love to hate, the sultry Karina Lombard as Marina, Katherine Moennig as everyone’s fuck god Shane, Erin Daniels, Leisha Hailey who I would be, and Eric Mabius as the sweet and slightly clueless – dumb and hung Tim who really should just be naked in every scene he’s in. But I digress and this is really a women’s show and what a powerhouse series for lesbians and bi girls this continues to be. Much more racially inclusive than Queer as Folk – there I admitted it, The L Word grabs you from the first episode and sinks its pulpy, soap opera-y, sexy teeth into you and never lets go. Love revisiting this modern-day classic American television series. Created and executive produced by Ilene Chaiken and Rose Lam, The L Word is so much fun. 4 out of 5 for this perennial classic.

Best first season phrase: Nipple Confidence.
