Grantchester: S1

grantchester s1Finished watching the six-part murder mystery series, Grantchester tonight. Thoroughly lovely and enjoyable British show starring the beautiful James Norton (the psychopath in Happy Valley), the reliable and still handsome Robson Green (Reckless, Touching Evil, Wire in the Blood), Tessa Peake-Jones (Poirot) and Al Weaver (Sherlock). Desperately trying to get back into the swing of blogging after my dizzyingly wonderful vacation last week. So here goes: Grantchester has strong, simple plots, tight writing, great acting, digs into PTSD post-WWII, challenges what you think of vicars, an effete male character who’s rather charming despite the stereotype, solid murder mystery plot lines and most importantly moments of beauty particularly in the outdoor shots that are framed like paintings. If you’re turned off by the clerical garb, don’t be. Grantchester keeps the godspeak extremely low-key. Just gorgeous – the cinematography and Norton’s lips. 4 out of 5 for this happy, complete show.
