Good Morning Vietnam

good morning vietnamKept half my promise and watched Good Morning Vietnam for the very first time. The promise I made after watching the Robin Williams PBS special the other week. The other half of the promise is to watch Mrs. Doubtfire again. Good Morning Vietnam released in 1987 when Williams was 36 truly is classic Robin Williams. The radio schtick is all ad-libbed as only Robin could create. The film is really a showcase for his immense talent. I laughed a lot. I cried a little. To make this a perfect film, I would have edited out the last half hour of the film when he realizes his friend Tuan is Viet Cong. It got too schmaltzy for a moment. Still it is the gargantuan talent of Robin Williams in a pitch perfect role tailor-made for him. I have to give Good Morning Vietnam a 4 out of 5 because even with the detour, it’s still an amazing performance in a good film.
