Got through 20 minutes of the 1963 Taylor-Burton airport drama, The V.I.P.s. I know this is hard to comprehend after watching Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, but there was simply no chemistry between Burton and Taylor. The idea of a group of people being stranded in an airport VIP lounge has merit. Unfortunately this VIP didn’t stand the test of time. Elizabeth Taylor looked radiant in her Givenchy wardrobe. Burton was dashing as ever. Also hard to imagine a film with Maggie Smith in it that isn’t at least decent. Smith’s talent was wasted along with the rest of the cast. Only hardcore Taylor/Burton fans and perhaps fashionistas looking for interesting early 60’s couture should take a chance on this. The rest of us can pass. 2 out of 5. Next.
