The Cotton Club

cotton clubEvery so often, I re-watch a film from my past I should have kept in my memory. Such is the case with Coppola’s The Cotton Club. I wanted to revisit it because my mother loved Gregory Hines. So for nostalgia sake and because I’m missing my Mom, I sat down last night to see how it held up over the years. Unfortunately, I found the acting stiff and awkward. The story simplistic. Richard Gere looked too much like Johnny Depp, which was a strange observation. Even the music and dancing just couldn’t cover the flaws enough for me to make it through to the end. 2 out of 5 for The Cotton Club. Next.
