One Mississippi (Amazon Prime Pilot)

one mississippi pilot

So I haven’t watched all the pilots on Amazon Prime this season, but I’ve watched the ones I’m interested in. Hands down the best show is Tig Notaro‘s One Mississippi. Loosely adapted from Tig’s own life, One Mississippi begins with Tig flying to Mississippi to take her mother off life support. She is surrounded by inept men – her brother and step-father and ends up being the only person in the hospital room when her mother dies. The rest of the half hour is spent getting through the funeral and figuring out what her next move will be. Her girlfriend surprises her with a visit. By the end of the pilot, Tig decides to stay and spend some time in her old hometown. The writing is genius. There’s a powerhouse behind this production including Tig and Diablo Cody as writers, Nicole Holofcener as director, and the three women plus Louis C.K. as executive producers. Can’t say enough about the quality of One Mississippi. It’s classic Tig – extremely dry and dead pan. I personally love that sense of humor. It’s billed as a comedy, but honestly it’s an absolute beautiful hybrid between comedy and drama. Check it out if you have Amazon Prime. There’s still time to vote for your favorite pilots. 5 out of 5 for One Mississippi.
