copenhagenEvery so often, a television program gets released long after it airs. Such is the case with the 2002 BBC drama Copenhagen starring Daniel Craig, Stephen Rea, and Francesca Annis. Adapted from Michael Frayn’s stage play about the meeting between physicists Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg in 1941 Copenhagen, the film brings a quiet intellect to the subject matter. Unfortunately I was put off by too much voice-over. I realize it’s difficult to show rather than tell when it comes to a play about conversation. But Copenhagen made me wonder whether they did the same voice-over during the play as well as the television adaptation? I doubt it. The leads were great, the pace glacial. This is a thinking person’s show. Not sure it translated for television. Wondering if BBC decided to release it now to cash in on Craig’s celebrity while he’s still Bond? 3 out of 5 for Copenhagen.
