Will Young – What the World Needs Now

Favorite British crooner Will Young put out a new album this year which will definitely be making my year-end list of favorite music. Yesterday Will sent out an email alert to a new single he recorded for World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). From Will’s alert,

Follow the movement using the #WorldNeedsLove hashtag. Meanwhile, here are some of the facts:

• During the last century over 95% of the world’s wild tiger population vanished. There are now more tigers in captivity in the US than are left in the wild

• Globally, over 700 million people depend on fishing for their livelihoods, while we’re catching fish faster than our oceans can replenish

• In South Africa, 3 African rhinos are poached every day. At the start of the 20th century there were probably several hundred thousand black rhinos, by the early 1990s there were less than 2,500

40% of the world’s forests have been cut down. An area of forest the size of a football pitch is destroyed every 2 seconds, despite being home to well over half of the world’s land-based species
