Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief

going clearSometimes documentaries enlighten you. Sometimes they inform. Sometimes they educate. Sometimes they make you smile. And sometimes the information is so mind-blowing your head explodes. Such is the case with Alex Gibney’s (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room) new film, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief about the details of the Church of Scientology. From the lies L. Ron Hubbard perpetuated to his wife and his followers, to the fight with the IRS for tax exemption status, to the barbaric rituals of torture and mind control former members report, every moment of this film builds on the previous to make your mouth gape wider and wider in shock. Take-aways: no church – new or old should have tax exempt status, no one should put their faith in people who ask for more and more money from you, and anyone who reinforces fear in someone should be stopped. It’s so sad people can’t look within themselves to do the hard work of improving their lives. There is no magic bullet. There is only this moment and what we do with it. 5 out of 5 for the scary, creepy, excellent Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. Thanks to all those who are speaking up. A must see.
