runFlew through Britain’s Channel 4 mini-series Run this week on Netflix. The story follows a group of desperate people taking place in contemporary London. Gritty, brutal, harsh, depressing, yes it’s all there. Run certainly isn’t pretty. But it’s real and packed with nuance and feeling. Four interlocking stories feature incredible performances from Olivia Colman (Broadchurch), Katie Leung (the Harry Potter films), Lennie James (Jericho, The Walking Dead), and Katharina Schüttler (Freier Fall). Yes, Run takes a certain kind of mood to absorb the trauma. But every story reveals a balance between the horror of the world and the beauty and delicacy of life. Each episode deserves a day or two to properly digest. And the ending makes the circle complete. Reminds me of Ventura Pons’ Carícies. 4 out of 5.
