Firecracker

firecrackerHonestly, I tried loving the 2005 Karen Black film, Firecracker. Karen plays dual roles – a religious mother and a carnie singer. Both broken women. Sounds like an indie dream come true. Firecracker is based on a true story that took place in writer/director Steve Balderson’s hometown. All the elements were present. In the end, I found the film difficult to believe. Too much artifice, not enough truth. The performances felt stilted. Too bad. I miss Karen. She certainly was a one-of-a-kind actress. I doubt someone like her could get work today in Hollywood. Ah, the good old days. Meanwhile 2 out of 5 for the awkward Firecracker. Next.
