All the Way

all the wayHBO’s biopic All the Way based on the Lyndon Johnson play written by Robert Schenkkan and starring Bryan Cranston releases this week on disk and streaming. For history fans and anyone interested in this fascinating post-Kennedy era of American politics, All the Way is a must-see. Cranston melds seamlessly into his role along with an all-star cast featuring Melissa Leo as Lady Bird, Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King, Bradley Whitford as Hubert Humphrey, Stephen Root as J. Edgar Hoover, and Frank Langella as Senator Richard Russell. All the Way certainly won’t pass the Bechdel Test, but what did during that time period? Viewers looking for an accessible, satisfying historical drama filled with strong performances, All the Way delivers. 3.5 out of 5.
