Red Oaks: Season 2

red-oaks-s2I can’t believe no one is talking about Red Oaks. It’s a simple premise. Guy graduates high school in the 80’s. Can’t decided what to do with his life. Teaches tennis at a New Jersey country club in his hometown during summers. Is he a slacker or a caterpillar? Season 1 crept up on me. Definite comfort food feel to the show, but it’s also about that point in one’s life where you have no idea where life is headed. Only the kid doesn’t realize most of life feels like that. This season Hal Hartley did most of the directing. With a smattering of Gregg Araki and Amy Heckerling. Honestly, I can’t say enough about this sleeper of a show. Simple, thoughtful, profound, and more than occasionally hilarious. 4 out of 5 for Red Oaks.
