ABC yes the traditional network ABC is busting out of their comfort zone to broadcast a brand-new mini-series about the gay rights movement in the United States. From Entertainment Weekly,

Written by Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk), When We Rise charts the rise of the fight for LGBT rights in the U.S., which highlights the history of the gay rights movement across several decades of history.

Written by Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black (Milk), When We Rise charts the rise of the fight for LGBT rights in the U.S., beginning in 1971 through the contemporary push for marriage equality. Black is also credited as a director on several episodes of the program, as is executive producer Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting), television helmer Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, The Americans), and prominent LGBT filmmaker Dee Rees (Pariah, Bessie).

When We Rise premieres in February on ABC.
