Second Chance Dogs

second-chance-dogsOutstanding documentary from ASPCA streaming on Netflix. Second Chance Dogs follows the professionals at the

ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center launched at St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, N.J. The Center is the first-ever facility dedicated solely to providing behavioral rehabilitation for homeless dogs suffering from severe fear and under-socialization (from the film’s website).

I thought this might be a tough one to watch given my personal history with my second dog Farley who declined mentally after his first year with me. Farley didn’t make it. But these dogs do make it. The vets state not every dog will make it through the program. They focused on the ones who did, which was inspiring. I loved the mix of Alaskan Malamute and Dachshunds. We learn about the horror of puppy mills and hoarding – the two main culprits in the abuse of dogs. A wonderful, heart-warming story which gives hope to human and canine. Thanks ASPCA! 4 out of 5 for Second Chance Dogs.
