Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

billy-lynns-long-halftime-walkTry as he may to capture the alienation and PTSD one can suffer returning from war, director Any Lee fails to hit Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk out of the park. Instead the film suffers from too much meandering and not enough focus. No one feels in charge. Too bad. We need more attention paid to helping our soldiers return from battle.  Ang Lee’s film misses. 2 out of 5. Next.

Full disclosure, I’m a fan of Lee’s earlier works, Pushing Hands, Eat Drink Man Woman, The Ice Storm, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. His gay-themed work, The Wedding Banquet and Brokeback Mountain both have problems in their depictions of gay men.
