Howards End (2018)

Hoping to love the new adaptation of E. M. Forster‘s beloved novel, Howards End. First there’s a script by Ken Lonergan. Then there’s Hettie Macdonald directing. Yikes. I was so excited. Split into four parts, this mini-series takes a deeper stab at Forster’s material than the luscious Merchant Ivory production from 1992. After watching the first part, I just couldn’t get into it. I didn’t hate it. It just felt dull. I’m a huge Forster fan and a huge Merchant Ivory fan, so I’m not surprised I had this reaction. Best to revisit the book or first adaptation in the future. 2 out of 5. Next.
