Borgen: S3

borgen s3I rarely think of watching television as an honor. But that’s what I’m left with as I close out the series finale of Denmark’s amazing Borgen. What an honor and a pleasure it’s been to peer into this culture through the characters and plot lines of this outstanding series. Borgen begins with Birgitte Nyborg being elected Prime Minister and ends with her re-entering politics with even stronger convictions and purpose as she attempts to balance her work, family, and love. Birgitte’s got scruples, she’s got morals, she’s got drive, ambition, she makes mistakes – huge ones, but in her heart of hearts she’s on this earth to make a difference and boy does she in the three seasons of Borgen. Highlights from Season 3 include Birgitte finding her way back into politics, Katrine’s juggling of family and career, Torben’s slow meltdown, Alex’s immaturity, Ulrik and Hanne’s persistence, Kasper’s new role as father, Birgitte starting the New Democrats, Birgitte finding Jeremy, and Birgitte’s health scare. I wanted more of openly gay MP Jon Berthelsen played by Jens Albinus. I wanted a sex scene with him bad. Actually I wanted a sex scene between Jon and Birgitte’s ex-husband Philip, but that’s a whole other Universe I’m creating. I marvel at the cast including Sidse Babett Knudsen, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Freja Riemann, Søren Malling, Thomas Levin, Pilou Asbæk, Benedikte Hansen Benedikte Hansen, Mikael Birkkjær, and Alastair Mackenzie. The series continued its outstanding work. I can’t say enough about this pitch perfect show. So much fun and so inspiring. Birgitte for President! 5 out of 5. I will miss you Borgen.
